But not as ugly as I thought it might be. Finally finished the sill and under wing structure welding on my e36. She just needs reassembly and shes roadworthy again. The coating is bitumen based undercoat.

That doesn’t look too bad at all. My mini’s got got a patch under the sill which looks pretty close to that, only according to the receipts, they paid someone £400 to have the work done, so I’d say you did a good job

Very true. And now the chance of rust falling in my eyes when i work on it is only 80% not 100%.

Yeah I doubt I couldve afforded to have it done by someone else to a similar standard. Sheet of metal was £10 then maybe £30 on odds and ends.

Have a go yourself, this is the result of a £100 welder a £30 welding helmet and a little practice. I’ve had only 20 mins of formal training and that was on a different type of welder. Basic patch work is well within the capabilities of even a clumsy DIYer (Im a very clumsy man).
